Orange is the New Black - Review

Before I begin, Let me explain the rating system I will use:

Stars (out of 5): Exactly what it sounds like.
Binge-watch-ability(out of 10): Yes, this is a separate rating system, because sometimes a really good show just isn't something you can watch episode after episode.
Maturity Level: The typical R, PG-13 rating, along with a very brief summary as to why the rating is the way it is.
And then I'll give the actual review.

(Keep in mind all reviews are of my personal opinion)

So, let's get started with my first review ever: Orange is the New Black!

Stars: 4 out of 5
Binge-watch-ability: 8 out of 10
Maturity Level: If this was a movie, it would be rated R, for sure. (Sexual Themes, Violence, Language)

I was kind of late to the Orange Is the New Black bandwagon, originally. But this show, which is produced by and exclusive to Netflix, is so addictive and compelling that I quickly caught up to the rest of the world. I would estimate that I watched all 39 episodes in about a month. If that doesn't attest to just how addicting this show is, I don't know what does.

This show begins with Piper Chapman, a seemingly innocent thirty-something who is happily married. Long story short, her past catches up to her and she end up in jail for assisting in selling drugs. The show then takes off with the many misadventures of Piper and the other women in the prison, as well as slowly revealing their crazy backstories. The show currently has three seasons, each with 13 episodes. As a person who loves shows with a lot of characters, this was amazing. I almost immediately became attached, and watched a good majority of the first season the day I started it. The hour-long episodes keep you guessing, making it nearly impossible to watch just one.

Needless to say, this show is amazing. I'm really looking forward to watching more of the Netflix original shows, as I've heard they live up to the expectations of this one (that means look forward to reviews of those shows!). Honestly, I can't say any bad things about this show, unless the hour-long episodes are somehow a turn-off.

Overall, I would say this show is definitely something to watch if you currently aren't watching something at the moment. It's not super short, but if you're anything like I am, it'll be over with in a matter of weeks. However, if you can manage to drag it out until June 17th, you'll be able to watch all of season 4 immediately. Which is a blessing and a curse for these Netflix-originals; once you get a new season, you can watch it all, but new seasons are only out once a year.

I hope this review was informative and helpful! If you liked this, follow this blog and tell your friends about it, and leave a comment or email me at jordanbaylescontact@gmail.com if you have any suggestions!
